Dear Neighbors of Prince George’s County,

On June 29th, Prince George’s County moved into a full Phase Two reopening .  Following the advice of our public health officials – washing our hands, wearing face coverings in public, and practicing social distancing – we have accomplished a significant downward trend in the number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the County since March. While Governor Hogan has granted the option to move into Phase 3 of re-opening, local jurisdictions will continue to maintain primary authority. Prince George’s County still possesses the highest rate of infections and will continue to remain in Phase 2. This means that theaters, concert venues, indoor pools, senior centers, County Government buildings and bars/nightclubs will continue to remain closed. Please note, according to statewide contact tracing, statistics show that 41% of positive cases were among those who attended family gatherings and 19% of positive cases were due to people attending house parties or indoor functions. Testing provided by the County Health Department is free to Prince George’s County residents. To find your nearest COVID-19 Testing Site, please click HERE.

Community Spotlight: Kingdom Fellowship A.M.E.

Since March at the onset of the pandemic, Kingdom Fellowship A.M.E. Church did not hesitate to step up and lead their members in committing to feeding their neighbors every week. Team Hawkins partnered with them to volunteer throughout the entire Summer by packing and distributing 500 boxes of protein and fresh groceries weekly. We thank Senior Pastor Rev. Matthew Watley and his leadership team for the selfless time spent organizing logistics and to the TPM Group for sponsoring this ongoing effort. Councilman Hawkins is truly grateful to the volunteers who came out to support every step of the way!

This past Saturday, September 12th, Kingdom Fellowship celebrated a major milestone marking the long awaited groundbreaking of their newest site in Beltsville. Before the ceremony, I joined others on stage and was featured amongst a powerful platform of speakers to include Pastor Emeritus of Reid Temple Lee P. Washington, Senior Pastor of Community of Hope Rev. Tony Lee and County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. This project is scheduled to be delivered during the first quarter of 2022 by Davis Construction where Kingdom Fellowship will continue to sow seeds of service.
