The Mayor and Council of the Town of Capitol Heights meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. Executive sessions begin at 6:30 p.m., and public meetings begin at 8:00 p.m. Agendas are posted in advance on our website.
Public Meetings: Members of the public may speak to the Mayor and Council by signing up at the meeting by 8:00 p.m. Each speaker has 3 minutes to speak and must identify themselves and residence or place of business before being recognized by the Mayor. Economic and Community Development – Mayor Kito James, Chair
Provides advice to the Town Council on issues of economic and community development.
Environmental Committee – Mayor Kito James, Chair
This committee recommends policies and programs to the Town Council relating to the environment, such as issues on natural resource management, wildlife habitat protection, energy efficiency, watershed stewardship, pollution prevention, beautification, tree canopy preservation, and ‘green’ policies.
Ways & Means Committee – Councilmember Kenneth Vinson, Chair
Provides oversight and advice regarding financial management, grant administration and contract administration.
Budget Committee – (Vacant)
Provides oversight and advice regarding accounting principles and budget management.
Public Safety Committee – Councilmember Kenneth Vinson, Chair
Examines public safety issues to determine how best to improve and enhance public safety in the Town.
Seniors Committee – Councilmember Monique Hunter, Chair
The committee is charged with advising the Mayor and City Council on matters relating to senior citizens, civic groups, reviewing policies and procedures, and cooperating with other agencies and other appropriate organizations in the advancement of senior citizen matters.
Neighborhood Services Committee – Councilmember Renita Cason, Chair
Provides oversight and advice regarding matters of property maintenance, public nuisances, rental housing, public right of way and Town beautification projects. Additionally, the team pursues an active outreach program to work with homeowner associations and citizens to enhance the appearance of the Town of Capitol Heights.
Youth Committee – Councilmember Victor James, Chair
The committee is charged with advising the Mayor and Town Council on matters relating to youth citizens, civic groups, reviewing policies and procedures, and cooperating with other agencies and appropriate organizations in the advancement of youth citizen matters.
Code & Rules Committee – Councilmember Marnitta King, Chair
Provides advice on the content and administration of the Town charter, code of ordinances, personnel manual, purchasing ordinance and all documents necessary for the execution of Town matters.
Business License Committee – Councilmember Marnitta King, Chair
Provides advice and oversight of Town business licensing.
