DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE– TOWN OF CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD

 

The Town of Capitol Heights, located in Prince George’s County, Maryland (population of approximately 4,300) is seeking a community focused, highly motivated, energetic, and goal-oriented municipal law enforcement professional to serve as the Town’s next Deputy Chief of Police. The Town seeks a Deputy Chief of Police to serve as an integral member of the Police Department’s Leadership Team. The individual must exemplify a strong customer service focus, have an extensive community policing background and must be dedicated to addressing the needs of the residents, Mayor and Council, the Town, and the greater community. The Deputy Chief must be visible in the community and must develop a strong relationship and partnership with community groups, associations, business owners, and citizens. The Deputy Chief of Police shall serve to uphold the standards of safety and excellence in preserving and protecting the peace, preventing crime, preserving the rights of persons and property, enforcing the laws of the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and the Town of Capitol Heights.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Deputy Chief of Police is responsible for supporting the Chief of Police in all aspects of police operations including, but not limited to, administrative oversight, personnel, patrol and investigative functions, grant writing, managing the departmental budget, establishing and maintaining community policing programs, attending Mayor and Council meetings, active participation and attendance at community meetings, coordinating foot and bike patrols throughout community, attending monthly Chiefs and Joint Task Force meetings, and other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirement

 

Current experience in Community Policing, Officer Training, Grant Writing, Supervision, and Municipal Law Enforcement. A minimum of ten (10) years of continuous experience in municipal law enforcement with at least two to three (3) years in a supervisory or command position. Equivalent combination of education & experience. Minimum of 30 college credits in Police Administration, Criminal Justice, Law, or related field. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or similar field preferred. Must hold a current certification through the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Must have valid driver’s license. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
